What do you think of 1440p, the apparent standard for future HD TVs?
After doing some random interweb searching, I came across 1440p which is supposed to be the future standard for HD TVs within the next decade or so.
What do you think of this technology? Is it even possible go to beyond 1080p? How soon will we be able to purchase 1440p TVs and how much will they cost?
I’m not looking for facts, just ideas and creative thinking on the questions that I asked!

Most people cannot tell the difference between a good 720 or 1080 image so I am not sure people will notice a higher res.
It took over 70 years and an act of Congress to force broadcasters to go beyond the video standard we set back in 1948. We have had lots of technology improvements in everything EXCEPT the video image in this time because it would not be "compatible" with existing televisions.
You have to remember – commercials pay for all of television. They wont pay extra for their commercials to be broadcast in 1440. They did not want to pay to go beyond 480.
And Hollywood – does not want 1440. They are already afraid pirates will take 1080, make high-quality tapes and Video CD’s and flood Asia, Europe and South America and kill their ability to sell their versions. (Yes – this does happen).
So we have the technology for this – but every HDTV that now exists would have to be replaced or be able to down-convert to it’s internal 1080 or 720 or 480. And Coke, Pepsi, The Gap do not want to pay for it.
